Dictionary Distribution, 9:00 AM
4/29/09: Guest Bartending –
Dimitri’s Restaurant; 5:30 –
8:30 pm. Proceeds go the Lazarus
Caucus, who provide meals for
the homeless at the Westside
Homeless Shelter. Appetizers
provided courtesy of Dmitri’s.
Guest bartenders will include
Rotarians, local radio
personalities, and other local
celebrities. All tips to the
guest bartenders for the evening
are donated to the Lazarus
Caucus. This is a great
opportunity to socialize with
some of the finest citizens of
Catonsville, while helping those
who have no place left to turn
for help.
5/28/09: Guest Bartending –
Dimitri’s Restaurant; 5:30 –
8:30 pm. Proceeds go the
Disabled Sports USA, who provide
recreational rehabilitation for
disabled veterans. Appetizers
provided courtesy of Dmitri’s.
Guest bartenders will include
Rotarians, disabled veterans,
and other local celebrities. All
tips to the guest bartenders for
the evening are donated to
Disabled Sports USA. This is a
great opportunity to socialize
with some of the finest citizens
of Catonsville, while helping
those who have paid a great
price for our freedoms.
DISTRICT & OTHER EVENTS:
POLIO PLUS UPDATE: Rotary
International announced that its
partnership for polio
eradication with the Bill &
Melinda Gates Foundation has
increased its contribution to
US$555 million. The announcement
was made at the International
Assembly in San Diego,
California, USA, on 21 January.
The Rotary Foundation received a
$255 million Gates Foundation
grant in January, for which
Rotary will raise $100 million
in matching funds. In November
2007, RI received a $100 million
Gates Foundation grant, which
Rotary committed to match by
raising $100 million. The two
challenge grants now total $355
million. Rotary has committed to
raising a combined total of $200
million in matching funds by 30
June 2012. This matching effort
is called "Rotary's US$200
Million Challenge."
4/4/09: 2009 Four Way Test
Speech Contest Semi-finals will
be held on Saturday, April 4th
at Glen Burnie High School. This
will be an AM contest. The
deadline for contestant
submissions will be March 30th.
Please see the attachments which
will be needed to enter
contestants, and the rules of
the contest. The finals will be
held at a luncheon following the
District Assembly on April 18th
at the Laurel West Holiday Inn,
15101 Sweitzer Lane, Laurel, MD,

4/7/09 – 4/8/09: Mock Interviews
at Mount de Sales Academy, 10:00
– 11:30 am. Volunteers needed
(particularly women) to help
prepare these high school
juniors for entering the job

13th Annual Award Banquet;
Martin’s West, 2:30 PM Listen to
inspiring messages from Dr. Ben
Carson and Gen. Colin Powell,
and honor the best and brightest
students from around the
country. The Carson Scholars
Fund, Inc. is a 501(c) (3)
non-profit charity that was
founded in 1994, by Johns
Hopkins pediatric neurosurgeon,
Dr. Benjamin Carson and his
wife, Candy. The Carson Scholars
Fund recognizes and rewards
students in grades 4 through 11
who strive for academic
excellence (3.75 GPA or higher)
and demonstrate a strong
commitment to their community.
Since its inception, the Carson
Scholars Fund has awarded 3,400
scholarships, and currently has
active chapters in 26 states.
The Baltimore City Rotary has
partnered with the Carson Fund
on a number of literacy
programs, and will be presenting
Dr. Carson with an Honorary Paul
Harris Fellowship. Tickets are
$75/person. For tickets or for

CLUB EVENTS:
4/29/09: Guest Bartending –
Dimitri’s Restaurant; 5:30 –
8:30 pm. Proceeds go the Lazarus
Caucus, who provide meals for
the homeless at the Westside
Homeless Shelter. Appetizers
provided courtesy of Dmitri’s.
Guest bartenders will include
Rotarians, local radio
personalities, and other local
celebrities. All tips to the
guest bartenders for the evening
are donated to the Lazarus
Caucus. This is a great
opportunity to socialize with
some of the finest citizens of
Catonsville, while helping those
who have no place left to turn
for help.

recreational rehabilitation for
disabled veterans. Appetizers
provided courtesy of Dmitri’s.

Rotarians, disabled veterans,
and other local celebrities. All

Disabled Sports USA. This is a
great opportunity to socialize
with some of the finest citizens
of Catonsville, while helping
those who have paid a great
price for our freedoms.
DISTRICT & OTHER EVENTS:
5/3/09: Garlic Mustard Challenge
will be held on Sunday, May 3,
from 1-4:30 pm at the
Avalon/Glen Artney Area of the
Patapsco Valley State Park in
Pavilion 104, in Halethorpe off
US Route 1 at 5120 South Street,
Halethorpe, MD 21227. This
annual event is sponsored by The
Friends of Patapsco Valley and
Heritage Greenway Inc. (FPVHG).
