Club Meeting July 1

Rotary minutes from 7/8/09

• Rosemary Wright gave the blessing
• Jonathan Zawacki gave us the Rotary Minute
• There were several happy dollars
• Cal invited all members to join him at the Extreme Makeover for small Rotary clubs to be offered Monday July 20 5-8:30 PM (happy hour 5-6:30, meeting 6: 30- 8:30) at the Hilton Garden Inn 8241 Snowden River Pkwy, Columbia, MD 21045. It is probably a good idea to get some feedback from this before deciding whether to hire a strategic planner for our club
• Cal asked for some input about hiring a strategic planner for our club and several members expressed some great points for and against doing so
• John M. gave us an update on sales at last weekend FRF event
• George B mentioned that there may be an upcoming opportunity for our club to run a one day beer garden at a local oyster fest. Planning is still in the works and George will update us as details become available. Please consider whether you would be willing to participate in something like this.
• Guest speaker today was Bill Jones, BRAC Coordinator for Baltimore County, and he gave us an update as to where it all is and when the influx of people may start.
• I think George B won the 50/50

Club Meeting July 15

A. Jonathan opened with an inspiration from Albert Einstein
B. For the Rotary minute, we recited the 4 way test
C. Cal made some announcements looking for volunteers for various upcoming events including Fall into Fitness, Frederick Road Friday's and the St. Agnes running clinic which is 9/8
D. There were a number of Happy Dollars as follows:
   1. Bill for a Rotary Rib fest cook-off he attended- do we have the seeds of another Sunrise fundraiser here? I like this idea.
   2. George for some excitement related to false labor pains (not his) at a recent cookout
   3. Rosemary is now offering residential plumbing services since she has become a plumbing expert at her own house
   4. Brent had a scare helping with a neighbor's construction project but escaped relatively unscathed
   5. Jonathan for a recent backyard campout of neighborhood dads and their kids- all under the age of 7
   6. Eric for his 6 year old twins conquering the diving boards at 5 oaks pool
   7. Cal commending Joe and Cindy and the Loverde Foundation for an excellent concert @ Spring Grove
E. Our speaker today was Jackie Knee - professional body builder and weight trainer who has had more celebrity clients than the Betty Ford Clinic. He spoke about diet and muscle-building and he offered free consultations to anyone interested in learning more about it.
F. We had two guests today, Dale Howard from the Montgomery Village breakfast club in Gaithersburg and he brought local Catonsville resident Tom Gross who owns Fireside Stone and Patio in Clarkesville. Anyone know Tom personally? I did not have a chance to get his information.

Until next week,

Club Meeting July 22

Catonsville Sunrise Rotary

Meeting minutes – July 22, 2009
Club Business Meeting

-Larry Aaronson inspired us with a quote from George Bernard Shaw
-Steve Arum delivered the Rotary minute and discussed his former club in Iowa

-Happy Dollars:
1. Tom- winning the 50/50 the evening before the meeting at the Chamber Crab Feast
2. Bill- an unhappy dollar that he forgot to bring pictures from the Rotary Rib fest he attended
3. Larry- an appropriate quote about taxpayer’s footing the bill-sorry I missed the details Larry but I think I was cutting French toast at the time
4. George- was very please with the crab feast-sold out again
5. Bruce- was quite happy that the recent fire at The Children’s Home did not result in any injuries
6. Eric- had a good trip to Dutch Wonderland last weekend
7. Susan- had a great time at a wedding in Chesapeake City

-Steve Arum gave a 5k and 10k race update and is looking for 100% club participation. He also commended Chuck on his efforts to get info about the race out on local running club web sites.

-We filled out the fiscal year club activities list which I sent to everyone yesterday via email. Steve will be leading the Bani efforts and Susan will be backup. Jonathan will be helping Eric on the newly formed membership committee. Anyone else want to help? Tom took the guest bartending duties. Rosemary and Susan are our new FUN committee and will be planning a social event or outing periodically for club members and families. I believe the first date is a pool party at Cal’s.

-Membership. Please forward 3 prospect names to either Jonathan or Eric to put on our list of potential members.

-Guest speakers. The club discussed getting more speakers who are not looking for financial support from the club. Members agreed to forward names and contact information of potential speakers.

-Tom won the 50/50- He must me living right!
