Responding to continued rapid shifts toward digital news consumption, the Courier-Postwill cease home delivery on Saturdays effective March 5, but instead will provide subscribers with a full digital replica of the newspaper that day, filled with local news, advertising and features such as comics and puzzles. The new model means subscribers will get newspapers delivered to their home six days a week, with a digital newspaper available every day.
Our commitment to local news remains steadfast, but the platforms on which people are consuming news continue to evolve. What was once solely a daily newspaper has transformed to include a digital site, mobile app, social media presence, multimedia and more. Our print newspapers remain a vital and important part of our strategy, but we are making a change this year in response to subscriber and advertising trends.
The Saturday digital replica, or e-Edition, will have the same look and news as the printed newspaper. The digital format also has some additional features, such as the ability to clip and share articles with friends and family and adjust the text size.
Other benefits of the e-Edition include:
UNIVERSAL E-EDITION ACCESS: Subscribers can now access more than 200 USA TODAY Network publications through their e-Editions. Simply go to your e-Edition (courierpostonline.com/eedition) and select the Universal icon on the right rail. From there, you can choose a publication to read. This access is available through the desktop or e-Edition app. As a reminder, the electronic edition of USA TODAY is also available every day as a bonus section.
NEW NATIONAL SECTIONS: New to the e-Edition are two daily sections –– Nation & World Extra and Sports Extra. This content will be inserted into the e-Edition pages but can also be found in the Bonus section. News in these sections will not be found in the corresponding day’s printed newspaper due to the lateness of the news and print deadlines. Nation & World Extra is now appearing with every morning's e-Edition, and Sports Extra, the companion section with late sports scores and agate, will launch this Saturday.
SHARE YOUR DIGITAL ACCESS: As a subscriber, you can share your subscription with a friend or family member. They will receive their own login and can access it as long as you remain a subscriber. Go to account.courierpostonline.com and make sure you are logged in (in the top right corner, you should see a button labeled "Hi *your name*” if you are already logged in. If not, click on the button for “Sign In.”). Next, select your name and go to “Manage Account." In the left-hand menu, look for “Share digital subscription." Click on that and enter the name and email address of the person to share access. An email will be sent to their inbox with further instructions on setting up their own credentials.
In addition, subscribers of the Courier-Post will now have access to the USA TODAY Network’s full suite of e-Editions across the country, as well as ad-free access to the USA TODAY Crossword puzzle. TheCourier-Postis part of the USA TODAY Network, and the changealso is taking place at numerous other publications in the network.
We've also made changes to the games and puzzles. Beginning Saturday, your favorite puzzles, advice columns and horoscopes will have a new home. We've created a new "entertainment center" to keep them in one place. It's a new, easy-to-read format. Look for the improved experience starting in Saturday's e-Edition and your Sunday newspaper. In addition, the daily TV grid has been replaced by a new What To Watch feature, highlighting the best viewing options of the day.
All print subscribers of the Courier-Posthave full digital access, meaning they have the ability to read news updates throughout the day, subscriber-only stories and video and audio features, among other benefits. Subscribers also have 24/7 access to obituaries, legal notices, and classifieds on our website.
News and sales staffing at the Courier-Postwill not change as a result of this. However, those staffs will be even better aligned toward digital news delivery.
Delivery times for the other days of the week will remain unchanged.
We will continue to strategically evolve our business model, while making decisions that keep our loyal subscribers at the forefront. Our newspapers are a vital part of the fabric of our community. Now,more than ever, it’s critical to support local news with subscriptions and advertising.
